PORTRAIT : Mila Posthumus

In Mila’s 3rd solo exhibition with StateoftheART gallery, entitled Portrait, the work is exclusively figurative. The portraits vary from being traditionally posed, to accidental, as if catching the sitter off guard, to being situational rather than personal. The atmosphere in most are melancholic and the sitters’ vulnerability alluded to in small details in the composition. The viewer drawn in to ponder what the back story might be. As is often the case with portraits, the characters inhabiting these paintings reveal and conceal in equal measure. The paint application is tactile, with brush strokes varying between sharp focus and blurred lines.
