Artwork Description
An adult and child walk hand in hand, seen from behind as though already on their way somewhere together. The child carries a brightly coloured toy, introducing touches of yellow, pink and purple to Forsyth’s restrained palette of white, blue-grey and black.
Their everyday outing plays out across an 1886 page of the Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette. Printed tables record vessels arriving at and departing from the colony’s ports, creating an ordered historical backdrop for the relaxed movement of the pair. The Gazette remains legible through their clothing, while confident brush-like marks give the figures warmth and immediacy.
Family Day is a limited-edition giclée print on paper reproducing the original artwork. Numbered 1 from an edition of 5, it measures 30 x 42 cm unframed.
