Soft pinks and deep magenta sweep across the lower half of Backyard, rising into a layered centre of sky blue, coral, yellow and violet. Above, broad passages of olive green and charcoal bring weight to the composition, creating a compelling balance between light, open colour and darker, more densely worked areas.
Tanja Truscott’s brushwork shifts between broad, fluid gestures and smaller marks that appear, recede and re-emerge beneath successive layers of paint. The result feels intuitive yet carefully held together, with the eye moving naturally between contrasting colours and textures. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring 90 × 110 cm, Backyard has a generous scale and warmth that gives it a confident presence. The painting is available for R30,000.
