I have a love for toys, both contemporary and past. I still have some from when I was a child and hang onto ones that belonged to my grandmother and brother. They have the ability to adhere and evoke feelings of great enchantment and joy for me. Humanity is the most amazing species that possess the ability to transform its situation by merely imagining another world. This world is endless, I think my love of toys has something to do with this process. A process which has ultimately slipped into my work.
To juxtaposition objects with the toy creates dialog with hooks into my sense of humour, something which is essential for my wellbeing. An element that is about celebration and so often overlooked in art.
Many of the toys were from my childhood or have become part of my visual vocabulary as an adult enriching my imagination and in turn my painting.
