Showing what art we're made of

Currently on show is ORGANISM, the second solo exhibition in the gallery for Janet Botes. In June 2014 we hosted her exhibition WILD & STILL: expressions of the landscape. In ORGANISM we show artwork in which Janet has used different mediums to express her ideas around our origins and nature as a species on our planet. The work includes fine art drawings, mixed media paintings, assemblage work and new media work. On 14 April at 2pm and 20 April at 4pm the artist will also be conducting a walkabout of the exhibition as well as perform a piece entitled 'I am an organism'.

The environmental theme of this exhibition gives a good introduction for our May exhibition Walking on Water by Zaan Claassens and our June exhibition Scapes: Rhythms of an environment, which will show work by Catherine Ocholla, Joanne Reen, Karen Wykerd, and Laurel Holmes

“Most mornings, wind and swell permitting, I paddle my surfski in the Atlantic Ocean. Here I observe the interplay between light and water, water and sky. It is mesmerizing. It is brilliantly beautiful. The ebb and flow of water provides me with immeasurable inspiration. I find oil paint and the fluidity of linseed oil the perfect medium with which to capture my subject." - Zaan Claassens

In our June exhibition, Beneath the Skin, our participating artists look at identity and self, and explore the ways we are different from each other, but at the same time share similarities. The artists for this show are Claude Chandler, Corné Eksteen, Damien Schumann, Gary Frier, Kendall-Leigh Nash, Louisa Betteridge, and Ntobeko Mjijwa.
