  • Upcoming Exhibition: ALL THE BUZZ
    Renowned artist Lisette Forsyth is set to unveil her latest solo exhibition, “ALL THE BUZZ”, a poignant exploration of nature, society, and the intricate parallels between the two. On show at StateoftheART from 30 November to 21 December 2024.
  • UPCOMING EXHIBITION: HEAVEN AND EARTH
    StateoftheART is delighted to announce the upcoming group exhibition titled Heaven and Earth, featuring the works of four remarkable female artists: Kristen McClarty, Catherine Ocholla, Laurel Holmes, and Karen Wykerd. This captivating exhibition of paintings and printmaking will be on display from 04 - 25 November 2023, at 50 Buitenkant Street in Cape Town.
  • Opening of HERE I FIND by Joanna Lee Miller
    On 24 June 2023, StateoftheART hosted the opening reception of Joanna Lee Miller's debut solo exhibition ' Here I Find' featuring landscape paintings created on site around the Cape Peninsula.

  • Opening of BIRTH OF THE ALTER NATURAL
    Read Sylvester Zanoxolo Mqeku's opening address at his debut solo exhibition 'Birth of the Alter Natural' at StateoftheART on 3 December 2022. Mqeku's unique sand cast ceramic sculptures are the result of his Master dissertation research and pose questions about humankind's existence and future on Earth.
  • Fabrication Finissage
    On 15 October 2022, the artists and curators of FABRICATION hosted a Finissage event, inviting visitors to take part in an interactive session of stitching on fabric while chatting with the artists about their artwork on show.

    Cape Town is set to become the "hottest art capital in the Southern Hemisphere in 2017" according to Bloomberg - and we're thrilled that StateoftheART has been included in their list of favourite galleries!

    For our October First Thursdays on 6 October we opened LIFE.BODY.TIME, a group exhibition of work by Bettie Coetzee-Lambrecht, Chris Denovan, Michaela Rinaldi, Jodi Hugo, Janna Prinsloo and James de Villiers.

    On 1 September we opened a solo exhibition of new paintings by Mila Posthumus, entitled PORTRAIT which opened on Thursday, 1st of September in conjunction with the First Thursdays event.

    For our August First Thursdays on 4 August we opened ANIMALIUM MAGICIS - a truly enchanting exhibition by Sally Rumball. The exhibition runs until 20 August.

    On June's First Thursdays we opened our first group exhibition for the year, 'Beneath the Skin'. Participating artists: Claude Chandler, Corné Eksteen, Ntobeko Mjijwa, Kendall-Leigh Nash, Gary Frier, Damien Schumann, Sarah Walmsley, and Andrew Ntshabele.

    Our May exhibition is a solo exhibition by Zaan Claassens, "Walking on Water". The art of Zaan Claassens is a celebration of life. In her exhibition, WALKING ON WATER, her primary focus is on water: what happens on its surface, how it varies, how light plays on it, how its moods change.
