Artwork Description

A large pink protea rises across an aged page of The Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette, its pale bracts opening above dark, loosely worked leaves and stems. Soft pinks, creams and touches of blue stand out against the warm, timeworn tones of the historical document.

Lisette Forsyth brings the natural form of the flower into conversation with the Gazette’s dense columns of legal notices, creditors’ announcements and public sales. The botanical image interrupts the formal language beneath it, while fragments of the original typography remain clearly visible throughout the composition. The contrast gives Strong its distinctive character: delicate in colour, yet assured in presence.

This giclée print on paper is numbered 1 from an edition of 5. It measures 30 x 42 cm unframed.
