Artwork Description
Mountain, shoreline and open sea flow into one another in Boland En Die See by Janet Botes. Meaning “The Boland and the Sea”, the title reflects the work’s imaginative meeting of inland and coastal landscapes. A small church and roadside elements appear alongside granite rocks, indigenous plants and waves, as though several remembered places have been gathered into a single view.
Botes moves between fine detail and softly dissolving passages, allowing the landscape to shift across the composition. Sun-warmed ochres and rust tones meet a cool blue-green sea and luminous sky, while one bright yellow flower anchors the expansive scene with a small, vivid detail. At 160 cm wide, the work has a generous scale that allows its layered imagery to unfold gradually.
This archival pigment print on paper measures 160 × 100 cm and is sold unframed. From a limited edition of 5, Boland En Die See is available to order for R17,500, with a two-week lead time.
