Artist Description

Silvermine Fynbos

"Silvermine is one of my favourite places to paint. It is very close to my home, and yet it feels a million miles away (perhaps in part because there is no cellphone reception there!). As soon as I enter through the gates, I am immediately transported into lush Fynbos and majestic mountains. I have specific spots I return to time and again. This is one of them - a view looking out towards Fish Hoek, with rows of mountains retreating into the distance. During the late summer, the Fynbos was exploding in colour. I returned on a few occasions, and as a result, had to adjust to different weather conditions. The first day was as you see the mountains and sky here. On the second visit, it was a lot cloudier. However, it meant the Fynbos was brighter, and I was able to capture that in the painting. What you can't tell from this painting, is that on the second day the ants were everywhere, as were the flies! Somehow they were certainly more active on a cloudy day!"
