There's a lot happening in "Stream of Inspiration", and that's part of what makes this painting by South African artist Janna Prinsloo so interesting.
In the foreground, a young man is bent over his notebook, completely absorbed in his writing. Behind him, a horse and rider gallop across the canvas, while a luxury car appears to the left. Brilliant orange brushstrokes sweep across the background, with drips of paint running through the scene.
It's an unusual combination of images that makes you wonder what's going through the young man's mind. Is he writing about something he's experienced, imagining an adventure, or simply letting his thoughts wander? We can't be sure, and that's what makes the painting such fun to explore.
Janna brings these different elements together with loose, expressive brushwork and a bold mix of orange, deep blue and earthy colours. The contrast between the young man's quiet concentration and the action behind him gives the painting much of its character.
