    Artist Notes:
    This is Kwaaitjie's friendly companion. It is an approachable and playful sculpture with an amenable temperament that complements Kwaaitjie's no-nonsense stoicism.
    
    The word "maatjie" means friend in Afrikaans and this sculpture was created as a buddy for Kwaaitjie (one of my first sculptures). "Kwaaitjie" translates to "bad boy" or loosely as cross little one. I wanted to express that Kwaaitjie is not alone or an outcast because he's a tough guy.
    
    These sculptures have lighthearted Afrikaans names in celebration of my South African ancestry.
