Artist Description
This work was inspired by the area of the Northern Cape of South Africa from Niewoudtville upwards to Upington. The landscape features a Kokerboomwoud (Quiver Tree Forest), with Quiver Trees standing like meerkats on the ridge of a small mountain within the Hantam Karoo region. Far off mountains, windmills reaching into soil for water and Weaver bird nests are other characteristics of this dry but diverse part of the country. It is also home to Oryx or Gemsbok, also depicted in the artwork.
