Full title: Slangkop Lighthouse in Kommetjie
Slangkop Lighthouse rises above a richly patterned sweep of coastal fynbos, its tall white form standing clearly against the sea and pale blue sky. Placed towards the edge of the composition, the lighthouse provides a calm vertical counterpoint to the lively vegetation spreading across the foreground.
Kitty Dörje interprets this familiar Cape landmark through energetic linework and layered fields of yellow, green, cobalt blue, lavender and ochre. Swirling marks animate the sky, while the dense variety of shapes and textures gives the landscape an almost tapestry-like quality. The hand-pulled silkscreen process lends each area of colour a crisp, graphic presence without losing the warmth of the artist’s drawing.
Slangkop Lighthouse in Kommetjie measures 99 x 65 cm unframed and is printed on paper. This impression is numbered 4/25 e.v. (edition variable). As each print is pulled by hand, subtle variations in colour and ink application make every impression within the edition slightly different. This gives the work the individual character of an original hand-produced print.
