Artwork Description
Mirrored images of a spotted buck meet along a central axis, transforming the animal into a complex, almost mask-like arrangement. Legs, ears and patterned markings repeat across the composition, creating a strong symmetry that only gradually reveals its individual parts.
Balekane Legoabe digitally layers animal imagery with enlarged botanical shapes, dotted circular forms and areas of soft transparency. Muted greys, pale blues and touches of ochre keep the palette restrained, allowing pattern and repetition to shape the viewing experience. From a distance, the work reads as a single intricate image; closer inspection reveals the doubled buck and the many overlapping elements from which it is constructed.
The Beginning is a limited-edition digital collage printed on 200gsm True Fibre Matt paper. Numbered 2 from an edition of 3, it measures 28 x 42 cm unframed.
